· The Importance of Regular Maintenance for ESP and Activated Carbon Filters
Even with the right equipment and correct air velocity, high-efficiency ESP and carbon filter systems require scheduled maintenance to maintain performance and system longevity.
ESP Maintenance (Electrostatic Filter):
Electrostatic filters must be cleaned periodically to remove grease buildup on the collector cells and electrodes.
There are two primary options:
- Professional maintenance service – cleaning performed by trained technicians.
- User maintenance – if professional service is not feasible, users can clean the filters themselves using approved cleaning solutions and spare parts, after receiving proper training.
Alternatively, the manufacturer can provide supervisory support while the user’s team performs the maintenance.
If ESP cleaning is neglected, grease collection efficiency drops , and oil begins to contaminate downstream filters — particularly the activated carbon filters — drastically reducing their lifespan.
Activated Carbon Filter Maintenance:
Activated carbon cartridges cannot be washed or cleaned.
They are consumable components whose service life depends directly on how well the ESP is maintained.
With proper ESP maintenance, the lifespan of carbon cartridges can extend up to 12 months .
If maintenance is delayed, the cartridges become oil-saturated within a few months and must be replaced with new ones.
Regular maintenance not only preserves filtration performance but also enhances energy efficiency, fire safety , and overall system reliability.
