The activated carbon filter of the Klarzone KZA series binds residual odors and gaseous compounds from the exhaust air of commercial kitchens through adsorption. As the final filter stage, it ensures that the discharged air is not only free of grease and particles but also odor-neutral. Replaceable cartridges keep maintenance simple and predictable.
An activated carbon filter works through adsorption. The highly porous surface of the activated carbon binds odor molecules and volatile organic compounds from the airflow so that they no longer reach the surroundings. Because activated carbon has a very large internal surface area, it can effectively capture even low concentrations of odor-forming substances.
As the carbon becomes more saturated, its adsorption capacity decreases. For this reason, the cartridges are replaced at regular intervals, depending on the odor load and the operating hours of the kitchen.
In a multi-stage exhaust air purification system, each stage performs its own task. The electrostatic filter separates grease and smoke particles, the UV-C stage oxidises organic compounds, and the activated carbon filter finally binds the remaining residual odors and gases. Only through this interplay is fully odor-neutral exhaust air achieved.
An activated carbon filter is therefore usually not used on its own but in combination with upstream filter stages. In the ecology unit of the KZT series, all three stages are integrated into a single system.

The KZA series comprises three models that differ in air capacity. TheKZA-25 offers an air capacity of 2,500 cubic metres per hour, the KZA-50 delivers 5,000 cubic metres per hour, and the KZA-75 reaches 7,500 cubic metres per hour. All models operate with a cartridge length of 400 millimetres, a cartridge diameter of 140 millimetres, and a filter pressure drop of 270 pascals.
The activated carbon filter is particularly suitable for kitchens with strong odor development, such as Asian cuisine, grill and kebab operations, and fast-food and catering businesses. It is used wherever reliable odor neutralisation is required in addition to grease and particle separation.
The activated carbon is replaced once its adsorption capacity is exhausted. A decline in odor protection is a typical sign of a saturated cartridge. The replacement interval depends on the odor load and operating hours and is determined on a project-specific basis.
An activated carbon filter delivers its full effect in combination with upstream filter stages. If grease and particles are not separated beforehand, the carbon becomes clogged more quickly and loses performance. For a lasting odor-neutral result, it is therefore combined with an electrostatic filter and a UV-C stage.
Yes, an activated carbon filter works purely physically through adsorption and does not require the addition of chemicals. The odor molecules are bound to the surface of the activated carbon without releasing any additional substances into the air.
