How does an electrostatic filter work?

An electrostatic filter electrically charges grease and smoke particles in the kitchen exhaust air and then captures them on oppositely charged collector cells. This removes even the finest aerosols from the airflow before the air enters the exhaust duct.

In the first step, the particles are electrically charged in an ionisation field. The charged particles then retain their charge across the entire filter cross-section. In the final step, they are attracted to and held on the collector cells, while the cleaned air flows on.

Benefits of the ESP system in kitchen exhaust

The electrostatic filter achieves a high separation efficiency of up to 98.7 percent for grease and smoke particles. Because the collector cells are washable, there are no ongoing consumables, and operating and maintenance costs remain low.

By reducing grease deposits, the fire risk in the exhaust duct decreases and the entire exhaust system achieves a longer service life. The energy-efficient and compact design can be flexibly integrated into existing ventilation systems.

When is an electrostatic filter the right choice?

For standard gas and electric appliances, electrostatic filters achieve a separation efficiency of over 95 percent. The right air velocity is decisive: the optimal range is between 2 and 3 metres per second. The longer the air dwells in the filter cells, the more efficient the separation.

Solid-fuel cooking such as charcoal grills or wood-fired ovens produces fine, sticky smoke particles. In these cases a two-stage double-pass electrostatic filter system is recommended to raise overall performance back above 95 percent.

The Klarzone KZE series at a glance

The KZE series comprises three models that differ in air capacity and the number of collector cells. The KZE-25 offers an air capacity of 2,500 cubic metres per hour with one collector cell. The KZE-50 delivers 5,000 cubic metres per hour with two collector cells, and the KZE-75 reaches 7,500 cubic metres per hour with three collector cells. All models operate at a filter efficiency of 98.7 percent and a power supply of AC 220 volts at 50 hertz.

For complete multi-stage purification, the ESP can be combined with UV-C filters and activated carbon filters, integrated in the ecology unit of the KZT series.
