• The importance of regular maintenance of ESP and activated carbon filters
Even with correct equipment selection and optimal air velocity, highly efficient ESP and activated carbon filter systems require regular maintenance to ensure performance and service life.
ESP maintenance (electrostatic filter):
Electrostatic precipitators must be cleaned regularly to remove grease deposits on collector cells and electrodes.
There are two main options:
- Professional maintenance – cleaning by authorized service teams.
- User maintenance – If professional service is not possible, the operator can perform the cleaning himself after receiving training, cleaning agents and spare parts from the manufacturer.
Alternatively, the manufacturer can offer supervisory support while the cleaning is carried out by their own staff.
If maintenance is neglected, the grease separation efficiency of the ESP decreases, and the downstream activated carbon filters become contaminated with oil – which greatly reduces their service life.
Maintenance of activated carbon filters:
Activated carbon cartridges must not be washed or cleaned.
They are consumable products whose lifespan depends directly on proper ESP maintenance.
With regular ESP servicing, the lifespan of the cartridges can be up to 12 months .
If maintenance is neglected, the cartridges quickly become saturated with grease and need to be replaced after a few months.
Regular maintenance not only ensures high filter performance , but also energy efficiency, fire protection and a long service life for the entire system.
