The UV-C filter of the Klarzone KZL series breaks down odor molecules and organic compounds in the exhaust air of commercial kitchens. Purification is purely physical, using UV-C light and oxidation, entirely without chemicals. This reliably reduces odors and smoke components before the air is discharged.

How does a UV-C filter work in kitchen exhaust?

A UV-C filter removes odors through oxidation. The short-wave UV-C light breaks down organic odor and smoke molecules and neutralises them together with the ozone produced in the process. This process, also known as photolysis and oxidation, reduces odor-forming compounds directly in the airflow.

Because the reaction takes place immediately in the exhaust duct, odors are significantly reduced even before the activated carbon stage. This relieves the downstream filters and improves the overall performance of the system.

What is the difference between a UV-C filter and an activated carbon filter?

UV-C filters and activated carbon filters perform different tasks in odor removal. The UV-C filter breaks down organic molecules through oxidation, while the activated carbon filter binds the remaining residual gases on its surface through adsorption. In combination, the two technologies complement each other and achieve the most reliable odor reduction.

For this reason, UV-C and activated carbon are used together in the ecology unit of the KZT series, complemented by an upstream electrostatic filter stage.

Benefits of the UV-C filter

The UV-C filter operates completely chemical-free and compact. Apart from the regular replacement of the UV-C lamps, it requires no ongoing consumables and, in addition to odors, also reduces germs in the airflow. This contributes to hygienic and low-odor exhaust air.

Especially in kitchens with strong smoke and odor development, the UV-C filter improves air quality and supports compliance with regulatory requirements for odor reduction.

The Klarzone KZL series at a glance

The KZL series comprises three models that differ in air capacity and the number of UV-C lamps. The KZL-25 offers an air capacity of 2,500 cubic metres per hour with four UV-C lamps. The KZL-50 delivers 5,000 cubic metres per hour with eight lamps, and the KZL-75 reaches 7,500 cubic metres per hour with twelve lamps. All models operate with a lamp power of 80 watts and a lamp diameter of 15 millimetres.

In which kitchens is the UV-C filter used?

The UV-C filter is suitable for commercial kitchens with high smoke and odor development, such as restaurants, hotels, industrial kitchens and catering operations. It is mostly used as part of a multi-stage system, where it works together with electrostatic filters and activated carbon filters to fully clean the exhaust air.

Is UV-C filtration chemical-free?

Yes, UV-C filtration works purely physically and does not require the use of chemicals. The odor and smoke molecules are broken down by UV-C light and oxidation, without releasing any additional substances into the air.

Is ozone produced with UV-C and is it safe?

Ozone is produced in the UV-C process and is used to oxidise the odor molecules. Because the reaction takes place in a closed system within the exhaust duct, the process remains controlled and safe.
